The founder of "Walrus" club was the small group (5-6 persons), which was engaged in the winter training on Komsomol lake (National park of Uzbekistan today) since 1948. The header of this group was A.S.Dobrynin. In 1953 "Walruses" have transferred their base to Ankhor channel.
Popularity and the importance of group grew, the number of members increased more and more and to the middle of 60th years a question on official creation of section of winter swimming arose. A.Dobrynin, R.K.Sarkisov, Z.Abliev, I.J.Berezhnoj, A.A.Goldrej, P.D.Zubakov, M.A.Strashinsky, V.D.Raevsky, A.I.Gnedyshev, I.J.Shkatov, E.I.Popkova, S.A.Samandarova, S.P.Tlagaev - the main body of the collective, have made the requests, sent letters to many instances, trying to get some help in creation of at least minimal conditions for all-the-year-round sports activity. 150 signatures of participants of the Great Patriotic war, veterans of war and work and invalids - have been collected under the application, proving that training will bring a huge advantage for prolongation of the senior generation life. Long time there was none reaction upon requests, letters and complaints, but nevertheless after uncountable appeals to higher instances, in 1962 there has been arranged a sunshade on a coast of Ankhor and established a cabin for changing clothes. The number of people coming on Ankhor grew steadily, and in 1975 veterans of "Walrus" have appealed to the First Secretary of CCCP of Uzbekistan - S.R.Rashidov. Rashidov, unexpectedly having appeared on quay, has immediately taken measures, having ordered to employees of MEC (municipal executive committee) to assign means from the budget for construction of pavilion. One of "walruses", architect L.M.Chuhovich had made the project of building, and then the pavilion was constructed.
In 1982 club "Walrus" was accepted to the balance of "Mehnat" organization which Regional Council began to render patron assistance to club. The competitions on swimming and kayak-paddling were regularly conducted on the basis of club.       The veterans took part in All-Union competitions on badminton in Yevpatoria several times: in 1987 - in championship of the USSR on badminton among veterans from 23 teams, the team of veterans from UzSSR has taken 3rd place; in 1988 the team has taken 3rd place; 1-st place in personal championship among men was taken by Jura Parpiev, and among women - by Flura Dajapova, K.M.Pak - 2d place. In 1989 the combined team of badminton players of Uzbekistan has taken part in conference on a theme: "Winter swimming" in Yalta.
For last 20 years much is made on getting things put in order, an accomplishment of platforms, but as the collective has grown up to 800 person and more than 300 members are engaged in "winter-swimming" all-the-year-round, many problems still remain unresolved.
Things have been got moving: the work has quickened.
